I am working on White Henbane as my next plant. There are 2 flower forms; while they generally bothe have a sulphur yellow corolla, one form have a green throat and the other form has deep purple-maroon throat

I would like to know if someone have met the purple throat flower form as I only came across the green-throated one. It would be nice to have both forms photographed.

For those who are Very Happy or Rolling Eyes or Embarassed or Shocked about the maltese term 'Zejza' (=breast) it is a descriptive name for the plant's fruit capsule (lid) which resembles (somehow?) a human breast. I am sure that it was not a priest or nun who gave the Maltese name for this plant.

I swear that the one I saw the first time in my life near my work place (Evan's Building Valletta) was the purple form but there is always a but!

There is a habit that local counsils order the service of a sort of lawn mawning ala Maltija were they remove all plants found along street sides. This plant was a such victim and now its not there Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad Mad

Would it be better that the money is used instead to clean the full trash bins or clean the streets from cosmopolitian waste (paper, bottles, cigaretts, sweet bags, etc) rather than innocent wild plants?!?

ok- may be that I cancelled it by myself-
Wolf, I answered (similar as Admin did): the true maltese zejza is not maroon? So they are green? Sad seems that I missed something...
Laughing
I thought (as far as I noticed) that both, the green and maroon ones are frequent, at least as ornamentals, growing in flowerbeds.

actually though this plant is supposed to be common I rarely come across it - last time I saw a good number was below the second chapel at fawwara but dont remember if they were green or maroon boobies

jackpot - i m not sure they grow them in roundabouts ...usually wild plants in roundabouts are widnet il-bahar though i believe years back they used to grow acanthus mollis in st.anne street floriana centre strip.

about two years back i was at a meeting in paris at french civil aviation headquarters and they grew acanthus mollis in their small garden - i believe i saw it cultivated in the halles area of paris as well.

ahh...ok. the Maltese National Plant! No, Wolf, I suppose that I am able to distinguish both, Palaeocyanus and Hyoscyamus (sounds similar, I agree)-
Admin, here are the 2 types of Hyoscyamus (green one from Triq Marsamxett, across St. Michaels Bastion, interesting site!), and the maroon one from a flowerbed in St. Julians (beside the large parking area at the coast).

I have an unmissable site for the green form (will reveal it in the profile) and already taken 40 photos and ready. but for the maroon no idea. I will try and find it out Friday.

So, St. Julians / large parking site / coast...

Is it the parking near the hotel (Corinthia) or near the parking beside Dragonara casino (parking in an open basement?!) ?

TNX so far

I have seen it around the fortifications in Valletta and Cottonera, and especially at St. Paul's Bay just to the left of the Tower along the coast. I found a large number there last year.

Admin: St. Julians, Hotel Alexandra Palace, entrance: take the closest way to the coast (walk down from the entrance, keep left, keep right. Parking area on the left hand sight: flower beds!). Have a nice day and give the barkeeper lady of the palace (Silvana) my best regards, we will be back in about 3 months!! Wink

I found some plants at Citadella, and plenty at its bottom were there are some ruins and disturbed ground at the left hand side (area at west side) but all where without flowers.

Then I found plenty at a Quarry limits to Dwejra (Ghajn Abdul if not mistaken) which where purple form.

Photographed successfully

Thanks for the help
