The latin name does not start S.j. (though I have not checked the english name yet)

From the photo that is the best bet. If there is something the photo isn't telling then can't do any better than that....

it's not an "ornamental" either if it is Spartium junceum, although I have personally never seen one in the wild.

RB, I have a feeling that you are right!

It was found in a private garden, and believing it was an ornamental, I checked quickly my book of ornamentals, and the closest was Genista spp (Fabaceae). Now after seeing Spartium junceum in flowers (I also never seen one before) on the websites and on the book, I think you are right....

think genista is an old name for it (it's definitely commonly known as that too), so you are right too.

Spanish broom is the English name.

If you manage to get some seeds one day let me know... btw the anchusa you gave me is currently beautiful with flowers, and soon having the verbascum in flower too. Cistus creticus growing strongly, monspeliensis quite some way behind but progressing.

My A.azurea in the clayey soil did not flower yet, while the one in compost flowered but remained dwarf. Not vey successful I must say.

The Cistus are doing very well too, and so does the other maritime plants and chicorium. The Verbascum is becoming a wonder - I am eager to see its flowers. Largest leaf some 60+cm long

I am almost certain I have located a spartium junceus bush near the imselliet school - see pic and tell me if you agree ...not exactly in the wild but close enough !

this should be flowering soon right ?

That does most certainly look like SJ but as you say that is hardly wild. It is also young. Probably some seed from a trimmed bush found its way there. I suppose that it should be flowering soon if not already.

There are a couple of plants below Tal Virtu, Rabat, old plants, in fields, they might have "original" provenance if not being wild themselves (they are not, technically).

where I shot pic there is also another some distance off very near houses there if you know the place so these must be cultivated - i have often heard of a few at buskett but never seen them and suppost there is / are one/ a few in wied tal-kalkara though god only knows x'sar minnhom hemmhekk !!!

wolf, mine was taken at Xemxija (private front garden) and were in flower.
