A Common vegetable or a wild Plant ?

I went for a short walk around Verdala Palace and I met 2 unfamiliar plants to me. One is revealed in this post, the other I will make some research before I write about it in another post.

There was a field which was bare except 2 or 3 large plants with multi lobed large leaves, as seen in tha attached photo.

I am quite bad in reckognizing agricultural vegetables so I want your advice wether it is a wild plant or a veg.

Any investigations or on-the-spot thoughts on this herbaceous plant ?

It looks like the leaves of Acanthus mollis, but those, I know,
are darker green.

There is some similarity but on closer look the leaves are a bit different from Acanthus mollis

The plants are of Globe Artichokes.
They may have been planted in that field years ago, but they continued to regenerate naturally by their seeds.

Excellent Keith, you are right. This is then not a wild plant but a veg.
