Meanwhile I looked under every stone, to find photos of Lobelias,
but they all were quite different. And the place, where I found it,
is situated on the stormy top of a cliff with no gardens or hanging
baskets around. Does nobody know more about this Lobelia???

Hi greenhorn: It is an ornamental cultivar of Lobelia erinus. The seeds are very small- distributed by the wind. Lobelia has a cosmopolitan distribution, although especially rich in the tropical and subtropical regions. Sixty-nine species occur in South Africa. Habitats: rocky slopes, sand dunes, everywhere (but really rare naturalised in Malta- I have never seen it before!), I know the plant very well.

Theree is a kind of lobelia used for aquarium purposes. the lobelia cardinalis. Obviously that isn't the plant illustrated above. However the cardinalis thrives in my paludarium as a marshplant and i do not omit the possibility that such specimens can be found in the maltese countryside where water is available.
Fortunately such plants are not invasive but the duckweed (lemna minor) at chadwick lakes is !

Could be. No Lobelia species have ever been recorded for our islands. I trust Weber :)

Il-Pine: He only did say the genus:roll: ? bootlicker:lol: In fact, he will be most appreciative :D BUT I FOUND OUT THE SPECIES1  Anyway, I am sure that it is Lobelia erinus. I saw them here and there in flowerbeds and pots of hotel entrances in Sliema etc (and I have them in my garden because I love them... They are annuals and will not be invasive, no problems, therefore, for the Maltese Wild Plants!
