This small bee species found at St. George;s Bay on 9 August is clearly a Thyreus sp. cf histrionicus. However I am aware that this is a very difficult genus and wonder if anything is known of the Maltese species and whether anyone with local knowledge is able to positively identify it to species.
Many thanks

As indeed would I! The genus is certainly right but as indicated it is a large and difficult genus and apparently nobody in Europe is really working on the genus at present. I just wondered if there might be a Maltese Hymenopterist with specialist knowledge of those species occurring on the island. I do have other Maltese Hymenoptera queries which might be resolved in time by European specialists so I am holding on to those images for the time being.
