Is this correctly identified ?

Yes, they have that shape and growing from trunk bases.

Have you checked the Genus Phellinus? Was it growing at the base of a Tamarix?

No I have not checked genus Phellinus, but will do so, and yes it was growing on a Tamarix, pretty high up in fact and could not photograph it from above, but could see that it was a dark brown.
