The Valentine Orchid

If this wild orchid existed only in Malta and I was the first to describe it, I would call it Orchis valentina! Its peak blooming time is mid February, very romantic flowers, and while they are often found solitary, sometimes you can find a couple.

However, it is Orchis conica - with the unromantic name - the Conical Orchid

It might be a bit out of place to write this here, but I just found a specimen with abnormally large lips (12x13mm) and somehow more robust/large plant compared to the norm in Malta.

Did someone encounter such 'largish' specimens?
