Grasses

Any ideas what these are ?

The upper one is a Briza species, the lower one a Melica species.
I am not especially knowledgeable about grasses!

Briza maxima (though you need sizes to be 100% sure) and I would safely identify the other as Melica minuta, common in shaded areas near garigue, cliffs and plateau sides. The other Melica spp. (eg M. ciliata) are quite rare.

Those grasses of Mallorca can all be found in Malta! Amazing hux

I have pictured and identified more than 100 grasses from Malta, and the ID of some is difficult. In 2007 I have discovered a new grass for Malta (actually Gozo) - Dactyloctenium aegyptium - most probably a bird introduced and slowly-naturalised species of grass.
