Briza maxima (though you need sizes to be 100% sure) and I would safely identify the other as Melica minuta, common in shaded areas near garigue, cliffs and plateau sides. The other Melica spp. (eg M. ciliata) are quite rare.xilpa wrote:Very grateful for your help. This gives me a base for further research on the internet.

Those grasses of Mallorca can all be found in Malta! Amazing hux 
I have pictured and identified more than 100 grasses from Malta, and the ID of some is difficult. In 2007 I have discovered a new grass for Malta (actually Gozo) - Dactyloctenium aegyptium - most probably a bird introduced and slowly-naturalised species of grass.
