Nauplius aquaticus variation?

In the "Plant families" section there is a picture of Nauplius aquaticus (in Flora Europaea called Asteriscus aquaticus) where the ligules are very short compared to the capitula.

Here is a pic og the same species where the ligules are relatively much longer. Is this a normal variation?

Thanx, - more of these silly questions will follow when I have sorted out the hundreds of pics I have taken in the garingue simply because I'm not that familiar with the flora of Malta and its variations.

many maltese plants grow in slightly different shapes and sizes than on the continent here in our islands. so don't worry! they vary even from flora europea guides.
