Beautiful black bee found on the ground at San Anton, buzzing.

For the bees, select hymenoptera from the list, and you will get only the bees and wasps, of which your specimen would have been easily identified.

Quite common actually Pine, sure you must have seen this around plenty of times.
I think they choose holes in things to make their whatever-one-would-call-something-in-a-hole-other-than-a-hive.
At least I often note them showing great interest in narrow steel pipes stuck in walls that happen to be supporting shelving in the yard. Unless, like Weber and his sausage tree flowers, they have more devious intentions
