Weird Ball with chimneys

What is this ???

This is not really a quiz but something for the education corner . Plant an asteraceae but too dry to recognize. Is this some defect or something normal??

Would like a bit of info about it (If anyone dares!)

suppose "galls" of flower heads of Dittrichia viscosa (?)- never seen before!

Interesting indeed!

Seems as you said a plant gall inflicted by some disease or vector?! I seen quite some along my walk in Gozo (Wied Hanzira)

If one have more info, just post it!
