Beautiful and very interesting picture of a clay 'talus' (slope) which of course look much more smooth and solid in winter, due to the presence of water which makes the clay 'flow' to a certain degree. The contrast can be seen during the summer when the slope dries up and becomes marked by huge cracks.
For who is even minutely interested in geology, also note the alternating horizontal bands of dark and lighter material within the clay itself. The lighter parts usually contain much more carbonates than the dark ones, making the clay more similar to limestone in composition (sometimes called 'marl' when the carbonate content is high enough).
May I ask exactly where this photograph was taken?
