MWP Quiz 49

Post by MWP admin »

Today I had some inspiration for a quiz photo.

Tricky, but should not be so for the experts!

Good luck

Well I know the genus but not the exact species and a bit busy/lazy to look it up so I'll pass for someone else.

Unfortunately for you MWP (in a joking way of course) I also have one of these at home :-D

RB it seems you have the modern Argotti Botanic Gardens at your home, we should infiltrate one of these days :)

Well it's actually in a medium-large sized pot, but it does happen to be somewhat tight there (now there's a clue)

RB

PS as an aside I really can not find the species :? I just looked now but no luck.

RB, I am quite convinced you know the genus so lets wait for the input of the other members. Anyone have an idea about the family or Genus :-)

PS, have you checked the other Quiz (MWP 50)

Hope I am not getting as bad as jackpot in evil quizzes

Glimbo, you will find that some different species in this genus are very common house plants, and another species still, often also found in a very particular place in the home, though not for decoration...

Culinary use hmmm... this one not really, but some of its relatives (of same Genus) have a culinary use (I like the soup most!)

Hint: I posted this plant as a quiz, as I was surprised that it belongs to this family !

You are on the right track G, as for this one, this can grow up to 15ft+ tall given the room.

Still don't know the species, even though have had this plant for many years.

I have not yet seen the flowers, but assuming that it follows its brothers' pattern, it is 6 petals, 6 anthers, 1 pistil, stellate shape.

Green or pale yellow flowers?

Any aroma from the leaves when crushed or bruised?

Nettle soup perhaps?

I find I'm thinking Choysia and Salix, but in a pot ... because it 's tender or invasive?.... and if not for culinary use for a natural remedy? and the height......... so .....many...questions......

lol g

I would say pale yellow... but you are off track :o
Remember that this plant is mostly used for decoration and only some of its brothers are used in the kitchen!

It's a tricky one!

Are the other members hopeless !!!

Yes, it is an Asparagus species with atypical leaves for its family - often having needle-like cladodes. I think I shall soon reveal the species as I see that it is not easy!

I have never seen this Asparagus around! It is a very strange species for this family, expecting it to have needle-like 'leaves' or very slender ones.

As JP says, San Anton is your best bet.
