Never ending grasses (spp1/3 May05)

Post by MWP admin »

More grass work. I am learning that several grasses needs several tiny details to be identified to species level, and a mere couple of photos are not enough. Hence a hint to a genus would be also enough unless the ID to specis level is possible with just the photos. Photos not of my best too (as the inspiration is sometimes quite low on this family!)

This is one of the species taken in May

Is this a Vulpia too? (seems not V. ciliata but I do not know if the cilia are seen only in the dry form!?)

I dont think so. Looked in Weber and Viney (Flora of North Cyprus) and I think its Gastridium ventriculosum. Dont know for sure.

I'll check Gastridium out. So I think Jackpot and Weber missed this post then.

I am labelling this plant as Gastridium ventriculosum since I could not find a better fit for other Vulpia. We only have this Gastridium spp. according Haslam et al.
