Strangest Cyperus / Cyperaceae

Any ida on this. Not particularly good on this family.

inflor discoid (doughnut like) 15-30cm accross, radiating bracts (or leaves) +/- 50cm, plant erect up to 120cm.

WOW! I think it is a species not prev recorded from Malta as I have not found it on Haslam!

one of the cultivated ones
probably cyperus alternifolius or the papyrus cyperus papyrus.

Yes Pine it is C. alternifolius - I was just going to move it to the quiz section!!! It is given as Rare / Naturalised Alien (even Cult.) so no "WOW" at all

Anytime you want a clump just let me know.

Extremely common in every pond. Just go to San Anton.

They can be kept miniature in a small pot, even up to say 30 cm high, but in a large pot will grow up to 1.5m high.

RB, thanks but I prefer that impressive tree which is covered with violet flowers at this time of the year.

I have found this plant near a spring water (urban area) and then not found it listed in the books of Weber(2006), Lanfranco, Bonnett, Haslam, Marjorie Blamey, and Wild Life of the Maltese Islands - So at that situation I thought it was something interesting !!

As you are saying it must be common because when finally I typed Cyperaceae in Google, I had it imaged no. 20ish or so (hence the first ID indication)

C. alt. was not included because we never saw it in the wild, but you will find it in the ornamental book...

Sure, rantonettii will be delivered to you... I took about 6 cuttings in Feb this year and was surprised just how easy they take root.

I have a definite overstock, and yes it is very attractive when looked after, practically all summer covered in flowers.
