Was it Cynodon ?? I tought Cynodon was something more erectish. anyway, it was interesting to read on Weber & Kenzior book that they grow 10cm a day (pg 82)

Cynodon is very variable and may grow as mats on sand dunes and beaches or as grass in private/hotel garden and football stadiums
