question for jack... ( or whoever cares to answer )
I tend to be confused by the false reeed and the lesser reed....is the false reed the one at the back of ghadira nature reserve ( very tall / less leafy than arundo donax / and smaller wider plume ) ...and is the lesser reed the one at wied qirda ( looks like arundo but shorter / leafy but with smaller plume than arundo ?

Wolf: no surprise with the confusing "Reeds". Arundo donax=Great Reed, Arundo pliniana (syn. A. plinii)=Dwarf Reed, False Reed. There are hundreds of Reeds, like Phragmites australis=Common Reed, what do you mean with Lesser Reed? I only know Lesser Reedmace=Typha.
In Ghadira I only remember Common Reed (a photo with the Red Tower in the background will be included in the book which will be available in May) and Great Reed. False Reed I found e.g. at the top of Wied Qirda, pretty close to Zebbug, on the right hand of the road, going to the direction of Luca. Do you have a scientific name for the Lesser Reed?

Wolf- I had to leave quick yesterday, so I only could confirm short, now the help for you:
great reed - arundo donax: has leaves which stick out horizontally,
false reed - arundo plinii: has upturned leaves,
common reeed - phragmites australis: has a one-sided inflorescence, in contrast to the arundos!
