Maltawildplants.com is now considered an online flora of the Maltese islands, portraying more than 900 species of plants found in Maltese habitats. It harbours a forum created in 2005 were memberes discuss topics about the Maltese flora and ID of plants.
I only ever found these in white in one location. The plant also seemed much more robust than the normal violet type, but maybe it was the better soil.

Yes, I agree. The lack of upper florets fooled me, and I had always seen this as deep violet in colour. It was in complete shade under trees.
I have this bad habit to rush with instinct on the forum rather doing a bit of research. (=sorry=) Haslam keys says that a constriction at the mouth of the flower = Muscari.
Today I have seen a population of Bellevalia romana and I confirm that my photo is not Bellevalia. Once you have seen both, it is difficult to mix them. Bellevalia has a dark violet-blue peduncle, white flowers (no violet) and prefers a clay soil type. Anthers have a nice blue-indigo colour.
