Maltawildplants.com is now considered an online flora of the Maltese islands, portraying more than 900 species of plants found in Maltese habitats. It harbours a forum created in 2005 were memberes discuss topics about the Maltese flora and ID of plants.
Another photo in the lost archives. Marked to be taken at Qrendi. The close up photos is helplessly unfocused. Maybe the photo below is enough - quite distinctive flower but I have no idea what it is - long time ago / seen only there.

ahhh, you meant Frawla Salvaġġa Creeping Cinquefoil, I searched my text and could not find it due to the missing e - I really do not know the english names..
What I am sure of is that the pic was taken on the 2x of March 2005 when Picus's friends from Finland came to visit us in Malta. Definitely not Autumn.
Also confirmed by the yellow "Qrempuca" -like flower at the top, which flowers in Spring.
I dare to say that it is Muscari neglectum as inflorescence was not that elongated.

ok, when the pic was done in spring it has to be the rare M. neglectum! Very very good, Stephen, I would like to get a more detailed site information (later) for our next field trip. Boys: short remark to the topic albinos: have a look at http://nafoku.de/flora/htm/muscneg4.htm
could be pine - are they still discovering new flora in malta ?
I mean 1980 is post-bible
is this a spring flowering species ?
i intend covering this area ( mnajdra all the way round to wied hoxt ) sometime early in spring
mwp - do you have gps coordinates for site ?
I think I will remember the spot and take you all there in Spring. Price a bottle of beer per head! (from my fav Hagar Qim Restaurant)
I was looking at pics and reading about both species and I read that neglectum usually has flowers with a white rim or teeth, while comunatum does not (all blue) so could be more the latter case!?!
Problem - the flowers were groing near a bird traping site - if the stupid bloke cleared the area we are doomed.

Muscari commutatum can be distinguished by the white edge to the perianth. If i recall correctly it hailed from the area known as Ta' Wied Rini where it was first descovered by Michael Briffa, a noted plant enthusiast
Yes it is very true, great to have another expert in the forum, and hope Edwin that you like the forum. If you have a plant to identify for you just post it here and we'll help you!!! ( just kidding of course !)
no wied ta rini is before you get to bahrija village ...there is a narrow road on the left ....you shud get a survey map of malta and gozo - MEPA sell them if I am not mistaken
I know wied rini pine - i also saw a lovely species of ghajn is-serduq
( sorry i forget the latin though it is something microcarpa ...) there with large red flowers
are you coming to selmun with us pine ?
I am also at the moment trying to trek the area below dingli cliffs which is fantastic for its remoteness ...it is slow work though and new territory for me ...come april we cud try going there on a forum visit
ps...does anyone know where wied zembaq is cos i dont know
Wied Zembaq either ends or joins Wied Dalam, and is found in limits of Birzebbugia. Couple of interesting plants there. I need to visit that next year.
