Maltawildplants.com is now considered an online flora of the Maltese islands, portraying more than 900 species of plants found in Maltese habitats. It harbours a forum created in 2005 were memberes discuss topics about the Maltese flora and ID of plants.

how tall were the plants? about 1-2 m or taller?
Ampelodesmos mauritanica was reported from a valley near Bahrija and it looks like your pictures. I think i found sth similar in the area but thought it was a large Festuca arundinacea. Maybe you should show the pictures to Edwin Lanfranco.
This plant was in the valley - on one side there were Reeds - Phragmites or Arundo I don't remember. On the opposite side there was this - it is my height in size and lower than the reeds but I have no idea if it is the same or a different species. Were if it is the it is indeed a rare thing.
P.S - I went to photograph this species because once when we were photographing (me and MWP) this plant we met this Maltese farmer who told us that a certain German scientist came to Malta to photograph that plant and told her that it is a rare species. Boq. I have my doubts!
