Been scratching my head about this, but closest I got was Hyparrhenia hirta. The feathery style+stigma are a not alike the pic in Weber book or Wild Plants though!
They grew close to each other as in tufts of long grass (about 100-400 specimen in each tuft) and tuft populations where isolated about half a metre from each other. Grass was about 1.0-1.5m long
