no acacia, a karoo has long white spines, once you see it you never forget it.
its albizia although the fruits look sort of irregular. but they are quite old and rotten after all. usually albizia fruits are very neat and beatyful.
Searching google, the flowers where pinkish red... i think I saw in the distance white-cream flowers for the tree I posted ! Now confused if it was the same tree. Very nice if really makes those reddish flowers
If flowers are yellowish white, it could possibly be Albizia lophantha - I have just looked up Albizia in the PIN book on trees and shrubs - that is where I must have read that it was from India since it is clearly stated so here - according to this source A.lophantha with cream flowers is also in Malta.
What about Albizia lebbeck? I came to this becasue I was at Sant'Anton with my girls today and came across to a very similar plant and the plaque had written "Albizia lebeg" (correction = Albizia lebbeck!)
Who is the curator of Sant' Anton?

I have to confirm if the white-cream flowers I seen from a distance belongs to pic 1. (read some 3 posts above). The leaves and fruit are not that different, apart that pic 1 seems old.
Your second pic is not the plant in the first photo, that is for sure.
In pic 1 it's either julibrissin or lopaphanta, very difficult without the flowers. The density of the leaflets is an important identifier, as against lebbeck, and conclusive is the seed pod, lebbeck makes straight seed pods 20cm+, compare with j-lo above.
I'd go for julie rather than lola, and say "Le" to lebbeck.
St Anton is cared for by the environmental landscapes consortium. dont think they have a curator like Argotti, just gardeners.
confirm Leucaena, one of the worst invasive trees in Malta.
I went to check the trees again and confirm that there where 2 different species, one which as you say is Albizia julibrissin which should have reddish flowers and next to it there are several trees with cream-white flowers (asshown in the pic below) which should be the same as Sant Anton, that is Leucaena leucocephala
Sorry for confusing you, but the trees where next to each other!
Btw, the place is St.Philips Hospital
