From a photographer point of view, I can notice very shallow Depth of Field, so the image should be a closeup / macro snapshot. So I assume it is something very small!
I am clueless on this one, probably becasue of the angle+dimension of the photo! However I would say to tackle the Family (or even Order) at this stage.
Those several awns reminds me a bit of some Poaceae members. Is it a Poaceae HC ?
Asteracea like to have spiny flowers too, but no obvious florets in this one so for the moment I cross out Asteraceae.
