photographed in wied babu mid-october / plant 18-24inches high and first impression is that it is some kind of chenopodium but the leaves do not look very chenopodium to me

sizi in picture is more or less actual

any guesses HC ...MWP....PINE ?

quite frankly no - rumex conglomeratus ( clustered dock ) dries and turns red by october - even earlier I think ...whats more this was on rocky soil on side of valley not valley bottom

like the ambrosia ( which I think this forum identified correctly ) in this case I am completely clueless

As I said I did a quick look at the Bible, and there is a B&W illustration of Rumex bucephalorus (Plate V) which at a glance was somewhere alike. As you know the illustrations are crappy and not reliable.

Personally I did not encountered this plant but I will make a deeper research when I am a bit free.

If you have a close up photo of the flowers post it for easier detective work.

I was just looking at the herbari virtual site and it does look quite similar yo chenopodium album

excellent, Wolf- yes, it is Chenopodium. There are some similar species, album, oppulifolium, murale, etc, and all may vary... I suggest in this case "opulifolium" (but might be wrong).

Both species are quite similar, but the most significant distinction is in the dimensions/shape of lower/middle leaves

If as long as broad (rather circular) = C. opulifolium
If longer the broader (more or less oval) = C. album

Another less important distinction is the colour of the stem. The album tend to have a red stem while this rarely occurs in opulifolium. Both plants are rather common and flowers the same time (Autumn) though the album a bit later.

My guess is opulifolium too, if you have a photo of the lower leaves we will easily confirm
