Areas of plants killed for bird-traping purposes

The picture below shows a rectangular area of wild-land over a garigue which have only dried/dying wild plants. The photo is taken in February where plants fluorish abundantly at this time, as seen around the patch.

Its not a meteorite from space, a neutrino or a bomb, but an act of an irresponsible bird-trapper who applied herbicide or whatever so that the plants are killed and easy to clear off when the bird hunting season starts.
