If the involucral bracts are 4mm long and 2 mm wide with a transparent margin not more than half a mm, it is R. picroides while if the bracts are more than 4mm and 2mm respectivelyand the margin up about 1 mm membranous, than its R. intermedia. From the little I see in the 3rd pic, I think its R. pi...

Some signs but not as much as expected. Prospero autumnalis and Muscari parviflora are always punctual, despite rain or not. There should be a big shot this weekend, but we see.... Did you notice that the weather has shifted by a month: Last Oct, Nov and most december remained warm and almost withou...

Interesting monocot.
Hi, i came across these two plants which I couldn't place. They are still in bud and a monocot (hence leaves not that significant) but I think I have not seen this before. After brainstorming a number of monocots, I've left with Ornithogalum narbonense, but it is not convincing me that much. I 'don'...

I agree with you in every corner. The environment laws are too much suffocating, imply excessive beurocratic practices and stupid in some cases. They work against the environmentalists themselves because they tend not to break laws, while the developer and those who do not give a shi+ to the environ...

A green patch with numerous wild Orchids in Qawra
Hi, I just want to thank Dave Messanger for showing me a remnant area of how Qawra should have looked before being developed. It can be considered as a niche ecological sample of what was present in this area, but of course much disturbed by anthropogenic stresses around. The area was a hotspot of w...

I am working on the determination of this specimen. I find it so cute that I wanted to share here. Probably I could tell you the name in the next 3-4 days unless it is sime scherzo di natura

It could have been a Morus, but I am not 100% convinced. Possibly the few leaves remaining (from last year then?) lost their original morus-shape and gave me a wrong impression. On the other hand pruning badly a morus in a squara in Mdina makes sense because the fruit woul make a mess on the ground,...

Tree at Mesquite Square, Mdina
Hi, I am touring some relatives of my wife and happened to be at Mesquite Square, Mdina. Just behind the well, there was a tree (badly pruned!) consisting of two semi intertwined boughs and at this time of the year a couple of leaves. I could not examine properly in detail or even take a photo but t...

More interesting would be the finding of Oxalis fontana, same habitat as O. corniculata but much rare. Another beautiful Oxalis is O. debilis with purple flowers and not invasive in our islands as their Cape sister, a garden escape in towns and old rural paths, but now it disappeared from such sites...

Orchids survey from Malta by Ian Brodie
Mr. Ian brodie have visited Malta for over 2 weeks and botanised our islands mostly for Orchids. He wrote a diary and recorded the species he encountered and was happy to share the infor on the forum. I thought of posting it in this section for the moment. Many thanks to Ian for sharing these after ...
