There is no pic and RB says Senecio???
MWP- please add a pic...
When MWP says Helichrysum and ornamental, and RB says Senecio (possibbly thinking to relatives of bicolor) I think it could be Centaurea ragusina ...

English: Croatian Centaury, Star Thistle, Dusty-miller, Knapweed
Main Synonyms: Centaurea candidissima hort.
Family: Asteraceae (Daisy family, Sunflower family, Aster family)
Country of origin: SE Europe (endemic to Croatia).
Found in: Public Gardens (e.g. Garden of Serenity, Sta. Lucia).
Occurrence in the Maltese Islands: Frequent.
Flowering time: Summer.
Description: An herbaceous xeromorphic perennial with a rapid growth-rate, growing to about 40 cm in height. The silvery foliage is very showy and the leaves are deeply divided, up to the midrib in the lower part of the blade. The flower-head consists of yellow long tubular florets.
Remarks: Interestingly, this species is not only close related to the National plant of Malta, Palaeocyanus crassifolius, its natural environment in Croatia is very similar: vertical limestone cliffs above the sea.

I look forward to get the book - it seems that these ornamentals we meet here and there are all there.

You're right of course JP - My response was a "shot from the hip" - look up that common English expression 
I had this vague recollection of this plant being described as such (Senecio) in a gardening book, and hey, those types of books are a bit loose with exact nomenclature.
