Cycas revoluta, try collecting some seeds as they mature a bit more.
They germinate VERY VERY slowly!
I collected some seeds in summer, important to do a flotation check (put in water for some hours, ones that float or rattle, throw away, old seeds likely will not be good), allow to soak for about a day, and plant, and forget... plant so about 50% of the seed is above ground.
Due to some disturbance, (dripping water) around Sep one seed was exposed fully, and there was a root going down!
But up to now, there is nothing above ground.

It was from San Anton, in some corner. There where 2 or 3 plants close to each other.
"expansive shrubs" - You mean expandible or expensive?

since they grow very slow they are expensive. what amazes me is the obviously large proportion of fertile seeds considering that male trees are extremely rare in Malta.
dont eat the seed, you stomach will burst.

you can eat the stem of some sp but dont upset the gardeners at st anton.
