Sunflower like species

Is it someting easy for you experts out there? It is a cultivated sort-of-thing, and I wonder if it is also an escape/naturalized somewhere else. Found at Rabat/Dingli.
Asteraceae is as far as I had arrived

Howsabout jerusalem artichoke afaik that's what it looks like.
havent checked though so as usual may be wrong!

Apart that, I think you are quite right after checking on the internet. I also found that the tubers/rhizomes are the edible part. Are they sold as a sort of artichokes?

Is it the commercial artichoke we buy from the grocer? I never thought that this veg was an Asteraceae! TNX

Yes if you are referring to the one that looks like a potato obviously and not the globe artichoke.

no, the commercial artichoke you buy from the Grocer is Cynara scolymus, also an Asteraceae. sth like the extremely beautiful and extremely spiny Cynara cardunculus of the Maltese countryside.
The plant on the picture is the commercial jerusalem artichoke you buy from the grocer.
