Literature concerning Maltese medicinal flora

Post by Fabinovaes » Thu May 19, 2016 7:10 pm

Dear all,

This is my first post to this forum, although I've been following it for many years now.

I’ve been having some difficulties in procuring some publications regarding the medicinal/traditional uses of Maltese plants, so I thought I would post my list here. I would like to ask if any of you could give me a lead on where I could purchase a used copy of the books below (maybe a website, or a specialised bookstore?).

Ideally, I would like to buy the books (one is a periodical, so an electronic copy would be great), but if not, I would be more than happy to read them in a library as well. I am about to try and send this list to the main libraries in Victoria and Valletta, but I thought I would post it here, just in case.

Besides this list, I would be very thankful if any of you could refer me to any article/book concerning Maltese medicinal plants (I have the two latest books written by Prof. Lanfranco).

I visit the archipelago annually, but I spend most of my time in Gozo (I live in the US). I am an ethnopharmacologist and am fascinated by the history behind Maltese’s plants. My in-laws live close to Ta’Kenuna (Nadur) and I’ve been trying to learn more about the medicinal uses of the plants in the botanical garden that surrounds the tower. Sadly, the garden was much decayed when I visited last year, but I hope I will find it in a better shape this summer (I am visiting early June).

These are the books/periodical:

Penza C. (1969) Flora Maltija Medicinali, Progress Press C. Ltda, Malta

Borg, J (1927) Descriptive Flora of the Maltese Islands, Government Printing Office. Malta

Cassar Pullicino J (1947) An Introduction to the Maltese Folklore, Malta

Gulia G (1855) Repertorio Botanico Maltese, Ex Libris Publii, Malta

Cremona A. (1971) Hxejj ta' Medicina Populari fil-Gzejjer ta' Malta u Ghawdex, Lehen it-Malti, No 6

Cheers and many thanks to all!
