i'm guessing carobs common animal feed and eaten by Maltese during times of despair during ww2 also important in past production sugar (julep form) :wink:

you are right, it isbelived to be the carob tree, Ceratonia siliqua, mentioned in “The Parable of the Lost Son”, Luke 15:11-32 .
